How to Wash Boxing Hand Wraps So They Last Longer and Stay Fresh

Boxing hand wraps absorb sweat every time you train. Washing them correctly is not only about hygiene: it also helps preserve the fabric, stitching and Velcro for longer.

How often should you wash boxing hand wraps?

After a hard session, ideally after every use. If you cannot wash them immediately, take them out of your bag, unroll them and let them air.

Best option: hand wash

  1. Unroll the wraps completely.
  2. Use cold or slightly warm water.
  3. Add a small amount of mild detergent.
  4. Move them gently through the water and rinse thoroughly.
  5. Press out excess water without twisting aggressively.

First wash: keep colours separate

Strong colours can release dye during the first washes. Wash coloured wraps separately until you know how the colour behaves.

Can you machine-wash them?

Yes, but hand washing is gentler. If you use a washing machine, close the Velcro, place the wraps in a laundry bag, use a gentle cold cycle and remove them as soon as the cycle finishes.

How to dry them

Air-dry them fully extended. Avoid putting them away while they are still damp and avoid repeated high-temperature tumble drying.

Train often? Keep at least two pairs

If you train most days, rotate two or more pairs so one can dry completely while the other is ready to use.

Useful equipment

Train, wash, dry, repeat. Your wraps will last longer and your gloves will benefit too.
